The Selective Functional Movement Assessment (SFMA) is a comprehensive assessment used to classify movement patterns, identify regions for further biomechanical (movement) assessment and ultimately to ensure that the right corrective interventions are given.
A key component of the SFMA and why it is such an effective tool is that of Regional Interdependence- In short this means that the the source of the pain is not always where the cause of the pain is- thus we need to assess and treat away from the primary location of the pain when appropriate.
For example if you go to a medical practitioner with a knee complaint, you will likely be told that the source of the pain is in the knee. However, if we looked deeper into this we may find that the knee pain is as a result or movement limitations and/or motor control deficit in the ankle and/or the hip, and the knee is merely the output region for the pain. The cause of the pain in this situation would not be the knee but the ankle and/or hip.
After undergoing a full SFMA (Top Tier movement assessment and relevant breakouts), you will have a clear understanding of not only what your restrictions are but whether they are soft tissue restrictions or motor control deficits. From there Neutrient will work with you to address these limitations and help you achieve your goals.
